We did go 5-6 last year and were much improved, but I still get nervous Vs. D1-AA teams. TXst.-SM played us pretty close a couple years back.

We're extremely young. If I were predicting I would say 3rd or 4th in the SLC at the end of the season.

Baylor has quietly amassed some quality talent. Kudos.

I don't think NWSt will have what it takes to keep up w/ what you guys return. You guys have quietly improved and that's tremendous! I would expect that you guys will cause great concern for quite a few Big 12 teams this fall.

I agree with this. I grew up not liking UT nor A&M for my own reasons. But I really liked BU. I visited the campus twice as a kid and once while in college. Beautiful campus (even though personally I think Waco is an ugly city) that I thoroughly enjoyed seeing. Almost attended there out of high school, but I didn't like the high tuition (and lack of funding to get there) in comparison to SWT/TxSt, which won me over with it's Hillcountry beauty.

NWSt. is going to have a hard game on their hands visiting you. We played you close when you're team was in the beginning stages of getting to where you were at the end of last season. They like to run, but if you throw down the right 4-3 combo with a strong line and quick LBs, then they will be forced to pass. Hope I don't offend any Demon fan, but passing isn't NWSt's strong suit. When they win, they're able to run, run, run.

Agh! You took my smart-ass comment!

I don't know what kind of offense Baylor runs, but the Demon defense had a their hands full last year with the triple-option (of course a LOT of defenses do).

The best thing for the Bears to do, IMHO, would be to just take it easy, coast, and not take NSU as a serious threat. They will still be recovering from the game against Kansas the week before, and will undoubtedly be licking thier wounds and moving slow. The Bears need to be looking ahead to whoever it is they have to play the next week. :smiley_wi

We haven't really had a strong passing QB in 5 years...since 2001 when we had NFLer Craig Nall.

I knew it'd been a while. From watching the Cats play NWSt from 00-05, it seemed like there wasn't much to say about your passing game (again no offense). But man you guys can run the ball. Of course, for the 00-03 seasons much couldn't be said about our passing game other than that the ball seemed to fly all over the field without really getting us anywhere.

Like I said in an earlier post Retro, Baylor can "kick back" and take NSU as lightly as they wish. No problem.

Too bad it's NSU and not MSU that they are playing. Right? (BTW, what was MSU's Sagarin point total, since it means so much?)

I watched a piece that FOX Sports did on the Big 12. Baylor's changes and new attitude looked much improved from the Baylor of years past. The coaches have a world of experience in playing as well as coaching at the NFL and college level. Better days may very well be ahead for your boys in green and gold.

Rumor is that TXST will be visiting Waco in 2007 again.

I didn't realize that TXST actually had a higher rating than Kentucky last year. I like our odds.

Wasson will be ready and hopefully will not hand off to the Baylor linebacker for the winning score like in 2004.

Nice stat to have for a school, wish my flames had it.

Not necessarily.

Most of those victories are against the likes of ULL and ULM. One was against TCU though.

Yeah, I could only find the Griz stats for the last 10 years. We have five, but four are against Idaho (the other against Oregon State).

But they're I-A victories! Here's to NSU! :beerchug: :beerchug: xprost2x

You like your odds to beat Baylor next year? No wonder you went to TS-SM.:D

That's correct. The only other win against a "legitimate" 1-A was in '99 against Southern Miss. in Hattisburg.

No, you are the fool. We are playing Kentucky next year. That's what he meant when he said he "likes our odds". Because we where rated higher in the sagrin ratings at the end of the year.

Later he was just saying that Chase Wasson has played against DI-A's (Baylor barely won) before and he pitched the ball to the wrong team and otherwise we might have won. The rumor is however that we are playing Baylor in 2007.

Dont get me started on what I think about Liberty.
Kids really are dense these days. They believe everything is about them.

Baylor should have a good passing game this year. If I remember correctly they stole the OC away from West Texas A&M who won the Lone star Conference last year by implementing an offense given to them by Tech.

Couldn't have been Southern Miss....they Killed us in 99 (40-6). Last time we beat them was when I was a 2 yrs old getting drunk off of wine I thought was strawberry "pop" (aka -- soda) back in 84 (or so I was reminded buku times...good "pop" though).;)

Maybe that was the "Other" NSU.

In 1999, USM destroyed us...I know b/c I was a sophomore in college and in the Demon Band AT the game. We did beat USM but I believe it was more like the mid 80's. Anyway, that game was not pretty...but at least we showed up the Golden Eagle Marching Band and the night before in New Orleans was, well, interesting...

Man what was I thinking (or drinking)? I was remembering the '84 game and typed in '99; which, considering my age is understandable. Yes, that game was a debacle! Thanks for keeping me honest.

We seem to have three things down pretty good lately with regards to football.

1) Beating I-As regularly
2) Producing NFL players
3) Making the I-AA playoffs

Now if we can take the next step and advance far regularly in the playoffs I would be happier!

Ah ok, I only hope my Liberty Flames can improve this year like Baylor did last year.

First off, we're coming off the worst season in school history. So it would be nearly impossible to do much of anything but improve.

That said, we have a new staff that has brought new passion to the LU program. We have brought in a slew of I-A transfers to go along with a roster that had freshmen & sophomores starting all over the place last year. If we don't show marked improvement this fall I will be shocked. Anything less than an winning record would be a disappointment and frankly I see us making serious noise int he Big South. But then again I am rather biased like everybody else on this board.

4) Losing to Montana:rolleyes:

Someday..we'll get homefield and make them Griz suffer in the Louisiana heat (I noticed Montana isn't nearly as good on the road or a neutral field as they are at home, where they "seem" almost unbeatable). But then again...we haven't been consistent on the road either.:bang:

But yall sure came to having a bigger win then any of our 10.

Remember that 41-48 game vs Oregon State where the other AD (and company) suddenly went off...(1999 I believe it was). If not for a couple of freak plays GA Southern could have easily won that game.

We have placed a ton of people out of our program in jobs all over the nation in just about every major professional league. A bunch of guys on our board are grads of the Sports Management.
